People’s Organizations

Organizing and empowering of unorganized and marginalized fisherfolk community marked the beginning of a new era in its aspirations for freedom, self-esteem and self-reliance.

Micro Cooperatives called Self Help Groups (SHGs) are the basis of all our activities in the target area. Through these groups the local village communities are organized and empowered to reach self-reliance.  There are 910 such groups with 85% of them by rural women the rest are traditional occupation based groups of men. More than 430 awareness building sessions/trainings are organized every year to empower the target communities both to fight against exploitative and unjust socio-economic and educational systems and to engage in strategic action programs comprising various sectors of social life.
